IoT System Architect

On Time Engineers is searching for an IoT System Architect for our client located in Eindhoven. Are you an experienced Architect and would you like to design high-quality embedded systems and cloud solutions? Would you like to guide and work with a team of highly-skilled hardware and embedded software engineers? If so…

Then be On Time now the vacancy is still available! Be aware that for this position you will be offered directly a contract with our client. Our goal is to bring you together with this high tech, innovative company in Eindhoven and make sure the whole application process goes as smooth as possible for both sides!

About the position

As an IoT System Architect you will work at the intersection of hardware, embedded software, and backend development. You will enable the connection of our clients devices to either their own platform (based on AWS Cloud technologies) or to their third party- applications. The job is challenging, but rewarding: you’ll be expected to shorten the development cycle of new industrialized IoT products to a maximum of 4 months, by developing a standardized platform!

This role can be the accelerator in your career. Together with a team of highly-skilled hardware and embedded software engineers you will grow projects from very small to successful deliveries within time and budget. You continuously need to make the right trade-offs when partitioning project requirements over hardware and software, and you are probably often squeezing everything out of the hardware.
As the company has recently started to embrace data analysis as part of the product offering, you will be expected to develop a clear understanding of Cloud and machine-learning technologies.
Are you ready to take this challenge?

Your responsibilities

You will translate customer requirements into an architecture by identifying risks upfront and partitioning functionality across hardware and software;
You set up technical quality metrics for both hardware and software projects;
You execute defined development work within a 95% – 105% of estimation;
Achieve a predictable team velocity of +/- 10%;
Spend less than 5% of the project size on hours for bug fixing;
At the end of your first year, success would mean that a development cycle of new products takes a maximum of 4 months and your team has a robust and well-tested standardized platform.

Job requirements

Proven pragmatic way of working;
Minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Embedded Engineering or related field;
Preferable 8+ years of experience in embedded software development within various environments;
Good understanding of machine learning technologies (Edge and Cloud);
Experience with Scrum and an Agile approach;
Written and verbal proficiency in Dutch and English;
Enthusiastic, proactive, and motivated to lead development;
Teach and coach other (software) engineers;
Ability to quickly signal and point out elements that do not work well;
A strong vision on how to improve development processes;
Good communication skills internally and toward customers;
Capacity to distill system requirements and how they map on our products.
